Crosskeys road closed following fatality

A woman in her 80s has died following a road traffic accident near Crosskeys this afternoon.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic incident near Crosskeys, Co. Cavan this afternoon Tuesday 7th October, 2025.

A collision involving two cars occurred on a local road in Carrickatober at approximately 3:30pm.

One of the drivers, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body has been removed to the morgue at Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

It is understood that Gardai are treating the matter as a medical emergency.

The other driver, a woman in her 40s, was brought to Cavan General Hospital for assessment.

The road was closed for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to conduct an examination of the scene which has since been completed and the road has now reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 3:00pm and 3.30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
