‘Our Cavan girl did good’
Biird, with Cavan concertina player Zoran Donohoe, performed at the Irish Art Center gala which took place at New York's Pier Sixty at the weekend.
The event honoured five-time Emmy Award-winning (and 33-time nominee) comedian and podcast host Conan O’Brien alongside Robert A. Bradway, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Amgen, a worldwide pioneer in biotechnology. The gala also paid special tribute to longtime honorary chair Loretta Brennan Glucksman and freestyle entertainer Kelley James, before guests were treated to a special performance by the all-female Irish traditional supergroup Biird, their first performance across the Atlantic.
Attending the event was artist Carlotta Hester and her husband and author Chris Murray, both regular visitors to to Cavan.
Murray reports of the gala gig that the 'Spirit of Ireland was transfixed' by Biird on stage.
“Biird was an absolute sensation in New York City at their first gig in North America. Zoran Donohoe seated right upfront played brilliantly, and her persona was shown in such a wonderful way. Our Cavan girl did good.”
