Further charge against truck driver charged with dangerous driving causing death
The truck driver, charged with causing the death of a 37-year-old Monaghan woman, has been further charged with having no insurance on the vehicle at the time the collision occurred.
Ion Bucurica (56), with an address at Avenue Victor Hugo, 33110 Le Bouscat, Bordeaux, France, appeared at Monaghan District Court yesterday (Wednesday) February 4, when he was further charged with having no insurance and failing to produce documentation.
The fatal accident took place at N2, Mullaghnee, Annalitten, Castleblayney, on Thursday, December 18, when the 2015-registered articulated Volvo lorry being driven by Bucurica struck a car coming in the opposite direction.
Car driver Emma Mackarel, a mother-of-two from Latgallan, Clones, lost her life in the tragic incident, which occurred at about 8am that morning.
Mr Bucurica, a Romanian national, has been in custody since that time, although it was confirmed at the Monaghan hearing that he was granted High Court bail in the meantime.
Solicitor Roisin Courtney said her client is hoping to take up that bail when a suitable, Garda-approved address can be obtained for him in this country.
Judge Finnegan remanded him in custody on that basis, to appear again at Monaghan District Court on March 4 for DPP directions.
