Man, woman remain in custody over €5m cocaine haul

Enquiries by the Anglo-Celt reveal the woman who is aged in her 40s and the man in his 50s are still being questioned in Monaghan

A MAN and woman arrested over the seizure of over €5m worth of cocaine in Monaghan on Friday remain in garda custody this morning.

Enquiries by the Anglo-Celt to An Garda Síochána has revealed that the woman who is aged in her 40s and the man in his 50s are still being detained in stations in the Monaghan district.

"Both prisoners remain in custody and investigations are ongoing," a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said.

On Friday, March 13, personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau supported by the Dublin Crime Response Team conducted conducted the Monaghan operation and seized suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €5.25 million.

This operation was supported by the Custom Revenue Service, local Units in Monaghan and international partners from the Belgian Federal Maritime Police.

The seized drugs are to be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.
