Two men in court over seizure of 1kg of suspected cannabis

Two men in their 50s and 20s are due in court this morning over €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis seized in Virginia

TWO men arrested over the seizure of €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis from a car in Virginia on Wednesday have been charged.

The men, aged in their 50s and 20s, were arrested after officers from the Cavan Drugs Unit and detectives from Bailieborough, stopped and searched their vehicle as part of Operation Tara.

During a search of the vehicle officers found 1 kg worth of the suspected drug.

The men were arrested and detained at a station in the Garda North-Western Region and charged the following day (Thursday).

They were due to appear at Navan District Court this morning.

In a statement, gardai say the seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis. While their investigations are ongoing.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
