Two new water dispensers for Cavan Town
Two new water dispensers have been installed in Cavan Town in a joint initiative by Cavan County Council and Cavan Tidy Towns. One dispenser is sited in the Market Square, the other is at Con Smith Park and they were officially launched on Monday morning.
Tara Smith, Community Climate Action Officer with Cavan County Council revealed the project was funded through Cavan County Council’s Community Climate Action Programme.
“It reduces the use of single-use plastics, reduces waste, promotes circular economy initiatives and is a wonderful asset for the community to refill in the town centre,” Tara told the Celt.
Maria Morgan, Environment Section Cavan County Council described it as “a long awaited facility” in the Market Square. She hopes it will be respected and cared for in the months and years ahead.
Vice Chair and Secretary of Cavan Tidy Towns, Paul Lynch explained they choose areas they thought would attract the most use, thereby reducing plastic waste.
“A lot of work was put in jointly by Cavan Council and Cavan Tidy Towns to ensure these new dispensers were installed. We will be able to establish in the coming months and years how many plastic bottles have been saved.
“ We encourage everyone to re-use their bottles at this amenity. Please respect and use the dispensers,” he appealed.
Paul Lynch revealed they are currently developing a community orchard at the site across from Tractamotors.
“We have already planted apple, plum and various fruit bushes. When it matures, people will be able to go in and sample the fruit.”
