The following local deaths have occurred in recent days
Nell Saffron Raven and her darling daughter Irena Raven Mereacre, Gortnacleigh, Milltown, Belturbet, Co. Cavan, July 24, 2026, tragically following a car accident.
Deeply regretted and very sadly missed by their heartbroken husband and father Alexandru, daughters and sisters Eveline Margalla Kemp and Violet Elizabeth Kemp, parents and grandparents Erik Raven and Christina Smith and Nell’s sisters Daisy Raven and Poppy Sharrock.
Remains will be reposing at Lawlor's Funeral Home, Ernehill, Belturbet, Co. Cavan (Eircode H14 R583) this Friday evening from 5pm until evening prayers at 7pm.
Remains will leave the family home in Gortnacleigh at 10.30am on Saturday morning to arrive for funeral service at 11am in St Patrick’s Church, Milltown (Eircode H14 K318) with burial afterwards in Drumlane cemetery.

Ray Howden, Killycrin, Bawnboy, Cavan
Peacefully in the exceptional care of all the staff of Cavan General Hospital and surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.
Predeceased by his parents Jim & Carrie Howden.
Deeply regretted by his loving family; wife Rosaleen, daughters Rosemarie (Brady) & Caroline (O'Connor) his sons Dessie, Michael, Gerard & Norman, his loving daughters-in-law Sinead, Vanessa & Martha; sons -in-law Michael & Daragh, his brothers Arthur, Cecil, Bertie & Des (London) & his cousin Alan. Sadly missed by his 19 beloved grandchildren and all his extended family, neighbours and his many good friends.
Reposing at Smith's Funeral Home, High Street, Ballinamore, Co Leitrim (N41 TD62) on Thursday, July 30, from 6pm until 8pm.
Remains arriving to Saint Mogue's Church, Bawnboy Co. Cavan (H14 FX65) on Friday, July 31, for Funeral Mass at 12noon. Burial afterwards in adjoining cemetery.

Eamon Cooke, Mill Lane, Kells and formerly of Main St., Cavan Town, July 29, 2026. Peacefully at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
Predeceased by his wife Mary, his son James, his parents Edward and Johanna, and his brothers Fr. Michael and Liam. Eamon will be sadly missed by his sons Fred (Julie) and Tim (Danielle), his daughter Johanna (Peter), his grandchildren Sam, Jack, Ted, JJ and Robyn, his sister Anna May, his nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Francie Ward, Ward's Cross, Tyholland H18 N621, passed suddenly but peacefully in Cavan Hospital on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Sadly missed by his loving wife Dympna, son Gary, daughters Natasha and Jenny, sons-in-law James and Brian, grandchildren Conor, Katelyn, Tiegan, Chloe, Páudí, Finn and Antoín.
Missed by his brother Brendan, sister-in-law Martina and niece Lísa.
Predeceased by his parents James and Kathleen and nephew Mark.
Removal today, Thursday, July 30, to arrive for 11am Requiem Mass in St. Patrick's Church Tyholland. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Anthony Ballantine, 6 Devin Reilly Terrace, and formerly of Belgium Square, Monaghan, Sunday, July 26, peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the excellent care of the staff in Cavan General Hospital.
Predeceased by his mum Rosaleen (Deery) Ballantine.
Anthony will be forever loved and cherished by his wife Helen and his children Emily (David) and Rosie (Ryan), Karl and Conor, his 10 treasured grandchildren, his brother George, his sister Leila, nephews David and Alan and his niece Laura, his friends, neighbours and all who knew and loved him.
Anthony’s funeral procession will arrive in St. Macartans Cathedral today, Thursday morning for 11am Funeral Mass, followed by burial in Laturcan cemetery.

Pauline Ormrod (née Hamill), 29 Ard Glas, Killygoan, Monaghan Town, Monaghan
Peacefully at St. James Hospital, Dublin.
Predeceased by her husband Keith and her father Packie.
She will be sadly missed by her mother Dolly, daughter Joanne, son in law David, granddaughters Georgia and Madison, brother Pat (Anna), sister Suzanne (Joseph), nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and friends.

(Christopher) Mark Leslie (1952-2026), Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, and Glaslough, Co. Monaghan, July 24, 2026. At home suddenly after a long illness borne with remarkable courage and dignity.
Beloved father of Luke and Leah; his partner Ana Dolan, his former wife Cliona Manahan, cherished brother of Sean, Antonia, Wendyl, Samantha and Camilla; and son of the late Agnes Bernelle and Desmond Leslie.
Mark will be deeply missed by his much-loved cousins Leonie Finn, Tarka King and Ivan Mulcahy, his nephews and nieces, including Cian, Heather, William, Olivia, Brian, David, Lynn, Jane, Lola and Paolo, and his great-niece and great-nephew, Ruby Rose and Cóilín.
He will also be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law Donal and Rowan Manahan, his sisters-in-law Marie and Nicol, and was predeceased by his sister-in-law Catherine. He is remembered with love by his lifelong friends Stephen Greenberg, Roger Willbourn, Steven Dizard, and Douglas Murray, as well as by his extended family, his exceptional neighbours and a wide circle of supportive friends.
