Killeshandra Festival of the Lakes promises a fun-filled bank holiday weekend
The Killeshandra Festival of the Lakes takes place this weekend with a packed schedule of live music and events in store.
The U18 busking competition kicks off at the town centre tonight (Friday), followed with live music by Mácalla in the Shamrock Bar.
On Saturday morning, walkers joining the Siúlóid sa Dúlra (nature walk) will set off at 11am, while this will be followed by a samba drumming and percussion workshop at 2pm.
That evening at 4pm, Lego enthusiasts are invited to the Community Hall to display their pre-built creations at the Lego Masters event. Prizes will be given for the best creation in each age group.
Live music will be provided by The Ramblin' Jacks on Saturday night in the Hillside Tavern, while Tara Lynch and friends will bring the best of trad music to The Shamrock Bar.
The much-anticipated family fun day returns to The Strand on Sunday from 1pm until 6pm with plenty of activities including face painting, bouncy castles, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, a magician, ice-cream, a barbecue, pizza and much more.
Admission is €8 per person aged two years and over. Meanwhile, the Raft Race will see those registered at local pubs build their raft by the lakeshore using provided materials, and then race on the lake to see who makes it back in the fastest time.
Sunday night's music line-up will be provided in three locations with Green Diesel playing in The Hillside Tavern, Dul Arís playing 'out the back' at Kelly's Bar, while Liam McCabe will perform in The Shamrock Bar.
On Monday, the annual Run 4 Ríoghnán will begin at the Town Lake at 11am. The 5km looped walk, run or crawl takes place in memory of Ríoghnán Flanagan, with prizes for the best time. Refreshments will be provided at the finish line, with proceeds of the event going towards Crumlin's Children's Hospital.
A fire fighter's demonstration will take place at the fire station at 12pm, at the same time the Ambient Music Festival starts in Killykeen Forest Park. Read more on this festival here.
Meanwhile, your dog could be the overall winner of the Killeshandra Festival of the Lakes dog show! With several different categories, the entry fee per dog is just €5 and everybody is welcome to participate. Registration takes place at Killeshandra Community Hall at 1.30pm.
On the final night of the festival, music will take place by The Hot Pokers in Kelly's Bar.
