On your marks for surprise Jamie Duffy gig in Iniskeen tonight

Act fast to get your free ticket to a Jamie Duffy 'pop up' gig in The Patrick Kavanagh Centre this evening

SCENIC Sessions, a series of pop up gigs in picturesque venues across Co Monaghan continues this evening with a surprise performance by Glaslough’s Jamie Duffy at the Patrick Kavangh Centre in Iniskeen.

It’s a case of on your marks though as capacity for this evening’s show is strictly limited.

Tickets for the 20-minute performance are free of charge so the advice from organisers is to get there early because “once it’s full, there will be no further admissions”.

Scenic Sessions is an initiative by Monaghan Tourism and Creative Monaghan featuring surprise, free 15-minute pop-up musical performances by local artists at scenic, unexpected outdoor locations across County Monaghan.

Exactly where each artist will be performing and when, will be announced on Monaghan Tourism’s social media channels (@MonaghanTourism on Facebook, Instagram and X) the evening before or on the morning of the gig itself, and the 20-minute sets will be free of charge for the public to attend.

“Jamie’s session at the Tin Church in Laragh Village last year was completely packed out - at 11am on a Monday morning - so we’re expecting a big crowd for this one, too,” a spokesperson for Scenic Sessions said.

Gigs so far have included Niamh Farrell and Podge McNamee of Ham SandwicH performing in Market Square, Carrickmacross; Gráinne Duffy and Paul Sherry at Clones Marina; and country music favourite, Ciarán Rosney at Lough Muckno.

If you are not lucky enough to experience a gig, fear not, because all the performances are being filmed and subsequently posted on the Monaghan Tourism socials.

“This has become the highlight of the Summer for us, an eclectic line-up of incredible musicians showcasing Monaghan’s most scenic locations, Dympna Condra from Monaghan County Council, said.

“The spontaneous, ‘pop-up’ element, means you never know when, where or who will be performing – you’ll just have to keep a close eye on our social media channels for announcements,” she added.

Jamie Duffy from Glaslough, is a pianist, composer and songwriter who gained global fame with his viral debut piano single "Solas".

With over 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, Jamie’s ability to blend neoclassical, traditional, Irish folk and popular influences sets him apart, along with his talent for social media and connecting with his fans makes him a modern star with his finger on the pulse.

Scenic Sessions is supported by Fáilte Ireland, Creative Monaghan, Monaghan County Council Arts Office and the Culture Programme for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
