Killinkere claim the spoils
Big weekend of IFC action
Killinkere got a much needed win last night to get their championship campaign underway with a notable win over Cootehill.
Going into the game both clubs were two defeats from two in the championship, and Thursday's defeat left Cootehill looking towards the final round tie to for their first points.
Killinkere were deserved victors having lead from the early stages of the second half to the final whistle, and Cootehill's goal by Diarmaid Carney wasn't sufficient to spark a Celts revival.
Cootehill had the better of the early exchanges and it wasn't until Fiachra Mooney's goal on 16 minutes that Killinkere established a firm foothold in the encounter.
This is a huge week for the Intermediate Championship and the action continues for the next three evenings. Four teams have won two from two - Butlersbridge, Knockbride, Cornafean and Drumlane - and with none of the teams playing eachother it's possible they will have retained their perfect record come Sunday evening.
None of this quartet have easy ties however, especially Knockbride's match with Denn who will be determined to make amends for losing last time out to Cornafean. Meanwhile the Reds, unbeaten this year, have a tough derby against neighbours Ballinagh on Saturday. Drumlane face Shercock, who showed grit in their remarkable comeback against Cootehill last time out, and Butlersbridge play Ballymachugh, who got a boost from beating Lavey.
