Funeral of Cllr Seamus Coyle to take place today

The funeral mass of Cllr Seamus Coyle will be celebrated today in his native Latton following his passing on Monday, August 17.

His removal takes place this morning from his residence to arrive at St.Mary's Church, Latton (A75YY09) for his funeral mass at 12pm.

Burial will take place immediately after in the adjoining cemetery.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin led tributes to the Fianna Fáil stalwart. He described him as “a proud Monaghan man” who had “an immense work ethic” and “a tireless advocate for his community”.

Cllr Coyle was first elected to Monaghan County Council in 2004 and was re-elected at every subsequent local election, topping the poll in 2014, 2019 and 2024.

Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council, Cllr Aidan Campbell (FG), led the tributes on behalf of the local authority.

He described Cllr Coyle as a “committed public representative who gave generously of his time and energy” serving the people of Monaghan.

Books of condolence have been opened at council offices across the Farney county.

Seamus is pre-deceased by his Father Tom and his Mother Rosie. He is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his close relatives, large circle of friends and his Colleagues on Monaghan County Council.
