Local talent to shine in WorldSkills

Students and apprentices from across the region will compete at WorldSkills Ireland 2026, taking place at RDS Simmonscourt, Dublin, from September 16-18.

They will be among more than 160 competitors in 31 National Skills competitions, showcasing industry-standard skills across construction, engineering, automotive, hospitality, creative arts and digital technology.

Representing Cavan are Jamie Tully, Lisreagh, competing in Sheetmetal Work, and Jason MacMahon, Cavan, in Electrical Installation.

For Monaghan, Pauric West from Rockcorry, who is studying Phase 4 Electrical at Dundalk Institute of Technology, is competing in Electrical Installation.

The event gives students, parents, teachers and guidance counsellors the chance to see skills in action and explore apprenticeships, Further Education and Training, and skills-based careers through demonstrations, hands-on experiences, industry talks and engagement with employers and education providers.

WorldSkills Ireland Chair Ray English said: “Skills and apprenticeships are fundamental to Ireland’s future. They support our economy, strengthen industries and create real opportunities for people across the country.” WorldSkills Ireland will run alongside The Irish Times Higher Options, giving students the opportunity to explore university, apprenticeships, Further Education and Training, tertiary programmes and skills-based careers in one visit to the RDS, Simmonscourt, Dublin.

More than 30,000 visitors and 300 schools are expected to attend. WorldSkills Ireland 2026 takes place from Wednesday, September 16, to Friday, September 18, at the RDS.
