Newbliss Designer in running for National Award

Vote for Dorinda McCormick in the Irish Made Awards before voting closes on September 8.

Newbliss-based designer and hand weaver Dorinda McCormick has been shortlisted in this year's Irish Made Awards, celebrating the best of Irish craftsmanship, creativity and design.

A primary school teacher by profession, in addition to being a wife and mother, Dorinda still finds time to pursue her passion from her home studio, above her husband Stephen’s family business, Larmer Butchers.

The artisan craftsperson is self-taught and creates distinctive handcrafted wool handbags and accessories, weaving the fabric herself on a loom before transforming it into elegant, limited-edition pieces inspired by nature, colour and traditional textile techniques.

Speaking about the nomination, Dorinda said: "It's been a huge honour to be shortlisted. As a small independent maker, it's wonderful to see handmade Irish craft being recognised and supported. The encouragement I've received from customers, family and friends means the world to me, and every vote is greatly appreciated."

Dorinda's work has gained national attention through events such as Gifted at the RDS and a feature on RTÉ's Nationwide, during the airing of that programme, her website sold out!

Members of the public can support Dorinda by casting their vote in the Irish Made Awards before voting closes on September 8. The awards ceremony will take place later this month at the Johnstown Estate, Co Meath.
