Solheim Cup glory for Europe and Leona
Leona Maguire has picked up another Solheim Cup medal, after Team Europe beat the US this afternoon.
Shortly before 4pm on Sunday, September 13, Spanish golfer Carlota Ciganda clinched victory for the Europeans.
Unfortunately, it wasn't to be for Maguire in her singles match on Sunday. Remarkably, the Cavan woman picked up her first singles defeat at the Solheim Cup- in her fourth appearance.
Maguire was beaten 2&1 by Lauren Coughlin, however it has been a good weekend for the Ballyconnell woman. In yesterday's morning session, a late come-back alongside playing partner Esther Henseleit saw Europe steal a point from the US.
However, in yesterday afternoon's session, Maguire and her team-mate Nastasia Nadaud were beaten 3&2 as the competition.
The competition went into Sunday's singles deadlocked at 8-8, but a strong performance from Europe saw Anna Nordqvist's side pick up 7 more points to secure victory.
