Cavan's geopark shortlisted for All-Ireland Sustainability Awards

Cavan’s Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark has been announced as a shortlisted entry for the prestigious 2026 All-Ireland Sustainability Awards.

The first Transnational Geopark in the world, Cuilcagh Lakelands are listed within the Social Sustainability, Diversity & Inclusion Initiative of the Year and Sustainable Tourism & Hospitality Initiative of the Year categories.

Tucked away in the northwest corner of the island of Ireland, straddling the border between counties Fermanagh and Cavan, the first Transnational Geopark in the world allows visitors to appreciate the best of what this unspoilt border region has to offer.

The Geopark includes a wide variety of sites of interest in a swathe of countryside extending from the northern shores of Lower Lough Erne in County Fermanagh to the southern shores of Lough Oughter in County Cavan.

Commenting on the calibre of this year’s entrants, Danielle McCormick, Founder, All-Ireland Sustainability / Triterra said: "From rural community organisations to multi-national corporations operating in our largest cities, this year’s entries truly reflect the diversity of organisations who continue to embrace sustainable principles and incorporate these into their daily operations."

The Awards will be announced on October 1 at a gala dinner event at Belfast’s Europa Hotel, which will welcome leaders from across Ireland in the world of sustainability and companies exhibiting best practice for the implementation of green initiatives.
