Book served for child porn possession

A Book of Evidence has been served on a man accused of possessing hundreds of images of child pornography and other alleged offences, including failing to inform gardaí of his whereabouts.

The man, aged in his 60s, appeared before Judge Raymond Finnegan. The Celt will not name the defendant until such time as he pleads guilty or is convicted.

A total of seven charges are included in the book, with evidence of service provided at a recent sitting of Cavan District Court.

It was stated that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed for the man to be sent forward for trial to the next sessions of Cavan Circuit Court in November.

The man appeared in court after a bench warrant had been issued and executed.

The alleged charges refer to the man knowingly possessing a media file on a Samsung phone in September 2025 contrary to provisons of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.

He is further charged with possessing 957 images on an Apple iPhone on the same date; with using a Snapchat account 'Ukgranddad4youngF' and username for the purposes of facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child on dates between June and July 2025; and with knowingly producing child pornography using a Google account on a date in June 2024.

He is also charged with obtaining child pornography using an Apple iPhone on a date in early September 2025; and with failing to notify gardaí, contrary to the Sex Offenders Act, every third day where they intended to sleep that night; and that he had a second address he regularly attended in Dublin.

The man was remanded on the same set of bail terms as before, but not before Judge Finnegan issued him with an alibi warning.
