Cornafean lift trophy

St Finbarrs last lifted the Intermediate trophy 2016 and Cornafean has made them wait at least another year.

Dominant from the get-go, Cornafean pushed hard in the last third. Aimee McIntyre underscored their will to win when she attacked from the right side of the square and drove the ball into the top left corner of the net. They left them little breathing time. A ball from Deirbhile McCaffrey's sailed towards the goal where Brid Mughes misjudged it -to Finbarrs disadvantage. Aimee then struck again with a second goal.

With three goals up, Cornafean dictated the game confidently. Amy Wharton dictated the midfield play, picking up player fo the match for her overview.

Mairead Smith and Aoife Byrne added to the Finbarrs scoreline, but at half time, Cornafean were still up by nine points. Coming out from the break, the Drung/Kill side gained a bit of momentum. While they had figured out how to stop Cornafean from scoring, they couldn't cash in on the chances they had from play up front. Aideen Coyle scored the first point of the half from a free for St Finbarrs.

Cornafean tried breaking through the middle, but St Finbarrs had spun a tight web in the danger zone and shot every attempt down. With five minutes to play, Cornafean had not scored a single point.

After five wides, Aoife Byrne had narrowed the gap to five points. The Drunk/Kill side started believing they could turn the table.

Until Aisling Smith burst through the middle. Her attempt was blocked, but Emilija Andriuskaite picked it up quickly and scored the fourth goal for Cornafean, sealing the deal. Final score 4-07 to 1-11.

After winning the Junior title 2017, Cornafean now lifted the intermediate trophy for the first time.
