In response to the update, Cllr Áine Smith questioned whether landowners are complying with hedge cutting regulations, following a motion that was raised at the previous meeting. The Bawnboy councillor emphasised that while some are still not cutting, “a lot” are.
Praising the work of those who have been cutting hedges, Paul Mulligan, Senior Area Engineer, told the MD they are waiting until later in the season to notify landowners of their obligations as it may yet be “too early” to nudge them.
He added that repeat offenders will be dealt with in due course.
