Extra gardaí as Bboro station prepares for ribbon cutting

Cavan is to receive five additional Gardaí in the latest recruitment intake from Templemore, strengthening local policing and supporting the official opening of Bailieborough’s new €24M Garda headquarters.

Three additional patrol cars are also due to be assigned to the Bailieborough District, enhancing the policing resources available across east of the county.

Superintendent Gavin O’Reilly gave the update at a meeting of Cavan’s Local Community Safety Partnership at the Hotel Kilmore in Cavan Town.

The new personnel will bolster the operation of the long-awaited station on Main Street, a major investment in Garda infrastructure. The new HQ will also serve as the divisional Crime Hub for the Louth-Cavan-Monaghan Garda Division.More than 60 gardaí and civilian staff are expected to work from the facility once fully operational.

The new headquarters combines the conservation of the former National Irish Bank building with a purpose-built, three-storey extension and facilities include dedicated interview rooms, a medical room, a victim consultation suite and specialist accommodation for crime investigation teams.

The station will also house Cavan’s Divisional Protective Services Unit, which deals with cases including domestic, gender-based and sexual violence.

The new station has already begun operating, with Garda operations transferring from the former premises on Barrack Street.

But an official opening with the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, had not yet been scheduled, though is expected to take place in November.
