New Joe Hanratty play set for Íontas

Castleblayney Players and Caisleán Theatre are putting the finishing touches to their latest production, The Trouble With Tommy Rafferty, a new play by Castleblayney playwright Joe Hanratty.

Set in a second-level school, the story begins when teacher Peter McGee intervenes to break up a fight between two pupils. The incident sparks a chain of events with far-reaching consequences that nobody could have anticipated. As tensions rise in the principal's office and personalities clash in the staff room, the play explores how a single moment can shape ambitions, decisions and futures, not only for the teachers involved but also for young Tommy Rafferty himself.

Combining humour, poignancy and music, The Trouble With Tommy Rafferty is Hanratty's fourth play. He is also the author of Golden Years and several other well-received productions.

The Trouble With Tommy Rafferty will be staged at Íontas Theatre, Castleblayney, on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 at 8pm.
