Scotstown have won their fourth Monaghan Senior Football Championship title in a row.

David McCague's side were comfortable winners in a one-sided north Monaghan derby in St. Tiernach's Park, Clones.

The reigning Monaghan and Ulster Champions will immediately turn their attention to the provincial campaign, they will face the Derry Champions in Clones on Sunday, November 8.

Jack McCarron was a late withdrawal for the Scotstown, although he made a cameo appearance with just under 20 minutes to play.

Truagh, meanwhile, welcomed joint-captain John McCarron back into the starting 15, but lost veteran Paudie McKenna midway through the first-half- although he was brought back on with 12 minutes to play.

In a controlled opening, Scotstown kicked two-pointers with their first scores. Conor McCarthy bagged the first with an in-swinger, before Kieran Hughes scored with his trademark outside of the left boot

Chrissy McKenna got Truagh up and running with an eigthth minute two-pointer, followed by a Seán O'Connell point that settled Mark Counihan's side.

Scotstown's Max Maguire got the game's fourth (11 mins) and fifth (20 mins) two-pointers as David McCague's side re-established their five-point lead.

Truagh missed chances in the first half, including a goal chance for Louis Kelly, that he kicked straight at Rory Beggan.

His opposite number, Ryan O'Toole made no such mistake in front of goal, sliding a shot underneath Caolan McGee in the 23rd minute to make it 1-9 to 0-4.

On the stroke of half-time, Seán O'Connell kicked the games sixth two-pointer, giving Truagh a sliver of hope at 1-9 to 0-6.

Their hope was short-lived. In the opening minute of the second-half Rory Beggan pointed from 60m out- the seventh two-pointer of the tie.

A Ronan Boyle point followed by a Lukey Hughey McKenna two-pointer put four points between the teams with 20 minutes remaining.

But David McCague's Scotstown managed to keep Truagh at arms length, as Beggan kicked the games ninth two-pointer to make it 1-16 to 0-10.

With that the game petered out, as both David McCague and Mark Counihan began to look towards their bench.

There was still time for Beggan to bag another brace of two-pointers, as Scotstown pulled away to win
