A Cavan start-up wants to revolutionise how builders buy everything from concrete and aggregates to plant hire - replacing the traditional phone call with a single one-stop digital marketplace.
QuotesForIt, founded by Cavan entrepreneurs Thomas Coyle and John Potter, is deliberately straightforward in its ambition: to become like Amazon for the construction industry.
Their proposition folds in three simple questions: What do you need? Where do you need it? When do you need it?
Instead of spending hours searching suppliers separately, customers enter requirements and location, with the platform designed to immediately identify businesses able to supply them.
“We’re bringing technology to a sector that has not seen much change in this area,” explains John Potter. QuotesForIt is initially targeting ready-mix concrete, quarry products, crane and plant hire, skip hire and oil supplies - effectively giving those companies another route to market.
For smaller suppliers, that means added exposure beyond their traditional geographic base. And for buyers, it means discovering new companies they might not otherwise have considered to do business with.
Developed from the Cavan Digital Hub, QuotesForIt has already been recognised with a Digital Award at the Cavan Business Awards.
But building the technology may be the easiest part.
The larger challenge is changing habits in an industry where relationships, credit terms and trust remain core factors to procurement.
QuotesForIt is betting that once enough of both sides are connected, their network will evolve, with their start-up to become the go-to place where contractors, tradespeople and self-builders start when they need something for a project.
Though their initial focus is Ireland, founders Thomas and John are already looking to the UK as their next opportunity to expand.“The construction industry is traditionally very slow to adopt digital solutions, but the shift is happening,” says John.
