Miracle triplets settle in at home

Monday marked one week since the Carnaross miracle triplets were discharged from Cavan Monaghan Hospital to go home for the first time.

When the Celt calls now mum of four Samantha Black, her newborns girls Madison and Morgan are sleeping while her other boy Junior is wide awake.

Morgan was due up in half an hour, while Madison was expected to wake half an hour after her sister.

“Now whether that’s going to go to plan or not is another story,” laughs Samantha.

It’s been an exciting week in the Black household, however going from a mum of one to a mother of four overnight has taken a bit of “adjusting”.

“There’s times that all three of them went off at the same time for a feed,” she says.

Samanta describes herself as “lucky” to have her own mum and dad, Loretta and William, and her 19-year-old daughter Kayleigh helping out

“I’m grand, I’m just delighted to be home,” she says.

Samantha had dreamed of a baby sister or brother for her eldest daughter Kayleigh, however her hopes were dashed again and again after several failed IVF attempts over the years. When an early pregnancy scan revealed three separate heartbeats after her last round of IVF, she couldn’t believe it.

When Samantha was admitted to hospital on the night of September 21, earlier than planned, prior arrangements made by the hospital were put into action.

Morgan Helen was born at 00:13, weighing 3lbs 5oz, followed by Madison Pamela at 00:14, weighing 3lbs 11oz, and Junior William at 00:15, weighing 3lbs 9oz.

Her babies were cared for in the Special Care Baby Unit for two weeks before being discharged on October 12.

Samantha praises Cavan Monaghan Hospital for how “everything went so smoothly from the start” despite her pregnancy being considered “high risk”.

For those currently on their IVF journey, the 40-year-old has the following message: “Don’t give up hope”.

“We are 10 years trying... I had said this is my last shot at it because of my age, but there is always hope, don’t give up. Keep going and just look after yourself as best as possible.”

She also shared: “I would not be passing the door of Cavan Hospital as a maternity hospital to go to a bigger hospital.

“Cavan was well able and equipped to handle my pregnancy... I cannot thank them enough, I owe them everything.”

Meanwhile, hospital General Manager Laura Waters thanked staff involved in caring for Samantha and her babies.

She wished Samantha, Kayleigh, Morgan, Madison and Junior “every happiness” as they settle in at home.
