MEET THE FINALISTS: NOT FOR PROFIT/SOCIAL ENTERPRISE

Cuan Cancer Support Centre provides psychological, emotional and therapeutic support services for those who have been diagnosed with cancer, their family and caregivers.

The centre, located in Cavan Town, also provides a drop-in service where people can call in at any time for a cup of tea and a chat in their homely kitchen area.

While all treatments and therapies are free to users, the centre is operated using grant funding, fundraising and donations from the public.

Cuan currently has over 2,000 service users on their database, with 656 people using their services last year. They delivered 770 counselling sessions, 2,000 complimentary therapies, and 433 sessions for children in 2025 alone.

Meanwhile, if current plans for the centre are approved, it is set to double in size to 360 square metres, which will allow the team to treble the services they are already providing.

They will have additional counselling rooms, three new treatment rooms, a specialised lymphedema room, which will be used by their lymphedema specialist who is also trained in post-surgery bra fittings; while they will also have a multi-purpose room which will allow them to host group activities such as wellness and exercise classes.

Founded by Kerry Mullen in 2012, the centre is home to 15 members of staff between counsellors and therapists who provide services such as reflexology, massages, acupuncture, life and financial coaching, cancer and exercise rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, a huge number of volunteers play a crucial role at Cuan and provide a listening ear to service-users as well as a transport service to appointments.

Centre Manager Maria Brady was "absolutely delighted" to receive the nomination, and said it is a "lovely recognition" of the work they do.

For anybody thinking of availing of Cuan's services, Maria encouraged them to reach out.
