Halloween in Monaghan Town

A range of children’s and family activities have been organised for the Halloween period in Monaghan Town.

Details of the events were outlined at the monthly meeting of the Monaghan Municipal District in response to a question from the Cathaoirleach, Cllr Alan Johnston (FG).

Today (October 28) children’s arts and crafts workshops will take place at the town library in the Peace Campus building. The library will also host autumnal art workshops for adults on Thursday October 29, and two further drop-in events on Friday October 30: a parent and toddler “fancy dress story time and boogie”, and a Hallowe’en-themed “creation station”.

On Saturday October 31, a “spookified” park run gets underway at Rossmore Forest Park at 9.30 am, while the regular Monaghan Town Walking Tour, at 11 am, will also have a spooky theme.

In the library, a drop-in storytelling event, “Room on the Broom”, also takes place at 11 am. The Peace Campus will also host drop-in Samhain workshops delivered by Annan’s Arch from 11.am-3.30 pm.

The major Halloween event in Monaghan is the Haunting of Rossmore Park – Kreepy Kandyland, an eerie visitor experience that will run from 3-9 pm at the popular amenity on the Threemilehouse Road on Friday October 30.

At the MD meeting, Cllr Seán Conlon (SF) praised the input of the Friends of Rossmore Park voluntary committee to the latest edition of an event that has proven extremely popular with the public in its staging over recent years. He singled out Paul Bond as “a brilliant force of engagement in encouraging young people to engage in fun activities at Halloween when there are other temptations not so socially conducive”.

Cllr Conlon described the Rossmore “haunting” as a very popular event requiring a lot of co-ordination and voluntary effort and one that puts Rossmore Park “on the map” through the level of spooky entertainment it can provide.

He said this year’s event is already 60% booked but the opportunity remains for people to register to attend.
