Monaghan's O'Hanlon to receive All-Star award

By Colm Shalvey

Monaghan and Carrickmacross half-forward Stephen O’Hanlon has been named in the 2026 PwC All-Star Football team.

O’Hanlon had his most consistent season in a Monaghan jersey in 2026, scoring 2-24 in 16 appearances in all competitions. The Carrick Emmets flyer notched 1-11 in the SFC and more than doubled that in assists, along with doing unorthodox man-marking jobs at times against Ethan Doherty, Darragh Heneghan, Sam McCartan and Craig Lennon. Monaghan had three nominations for 2026, with O’Hanlon being joined on the shortlist by Scotstown keeper Rory Beggan and Magheracloone defender Dylan Byrne. O’Hanlon becomes Monaghan’s first national All-Star since Conor McCarthy in 2023.

Eight counties are represented in the All-Star Football team, with All-Ireland champions Mayo securing six awards. Kerry scoop three awards, including a seventh for David Clifford, while the other six places are spread between Monaghan, Westmeath, Louth, Armagh, Tyrone and Dublin, making for the widest representation of counties on an All-Star team since 2010.

Part of the GAA landscape since 1971, the All-Stars were chosen by a panel of Gaelic Games correspondents from across print, radio, TV and digital media. The awards ceremony will be shown live from Dublin’s RDS on RTÉ1 television tomorrow night (Friday) from 7.30pm.
