Multiple SuperValu stores affected by suspected cyberattack
Thirteen SuperValu stores across Ireland have been affected by a suspected cyberattack, according to SuperValu's owners.
Musgrave confirmed the attack in a statement and clarified that it is linked to a specific refrigeration brand, which has resulted in a large amount of fresh food being discarded.
The group said they are currently working with cybersecurity specialists to restore operations in the affected stores as soon as possible.
Last month, there were similar attacks on fridges in supermarkets across France; criminals remotely accessed the fridges and shot up their temperatures.
A spokesperson for Musgrave said: “As a precaution, chilled and frozen products in the affected stores have been removed from sale, and all other products remain available as normal. Customer safety is our priority, and customers can be confident that products on sale in our stores have been stored at safe temperatures.
“We are working closely with the suppliers of the affected refrigeration equipment and with cybersecurity specialists to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as quickly as possible.”
