Naughton Scholarships for local pupils

Two Monaghan students and one Cavan student were each awarded a €24,000 Naughton Foundation Scholarship at an event at Trinity College’s Business School.

This year’s Monaghan scholars include Joshua Campbell who attended the Patrician High School in Carrickmacross, and is studying Physics at Queens University, and Owen Van Tonder from Beech Hill College, who has accepted a place at Trinity College Dublin’s Physical Sciences programme.

Meanwhile, former Loreto College Cavan student Niamh Fitzpatrick has accepted a place to study Pharmacy at Queens University Belfast.

The Naughton Foundation Scholarship Awards nurture Ireland’s next generation of talent by supporting exceptional students pursuing third-level degrees in science, technology, engineering and maths. Through its continued investment in STEM education, the Foundation helps shape the future of Irish innovation and strengthen the nation’s global reputation for excellence.

The prize winners’ former secondary schools also benefit, with Patrician High School, Beech Hill College and Loreto College Cavan each awarded a prize of €1,000 towards their school’s science facilities.

Minister Jennifer Carroll MacNeill extended her congratulations to all this year’s winners. “These scholarships celebrate not only academic excellence, but also curiosity, determination and the ambition to make a difference.

“You have given us reason to be hopeful about the future,” she said.
