New manager appointed

Corlough GFC recently held their AGM in the Clubroom and the following officers were elected: Hon. Presidents: Paddy Archibold, Eddie McGovern, John F. McGovern, Fr Lynch, Tom McGovern, Hugh McManus, Christy McHugh, Fr Loughlin, Paddy Duffy, Benny McGee, Tommy Brennan and Fr Tom McManus. Chairman Michael McGovern; Vice - Chairman Kieran Dolan; Secretary Joe Dolan, Assistant-Secretary Joseph Prior; Treasurer Alan Martin & Hughie McManus; PRO: Gerry Prior, Youth Officer Aidan Cassidy; Child protection officer Ann-Marie McTeggart

There was a large attendance at the meeting and news that a new manager had been appointed was a welcome one. The 2007 season didn't produce any trophies for the cabinet and was a year which was largely disappointing for the club on the field. Like previous years, there was a wave of optimism in the air as a new manager has been appointed, Cathal Murphy from Kinawley, who was Fermanagh minor team manager for the last two years.

Reflecting over the previous year, great progress was made including work on the new grounds; and the erection of floodlights as well as new netting.

Official opening of park

A new committee has been set up headed by Hugh McGovern to organise the official opening of the pitch. Thanks to all who braved the elements on St. Stephen's Day to play and support the P.J. McManus fund-raising game in the park.  Hugh McManus presented the cup to the winning captain Michael Dolan on behalf of the McManus family. The proceeds amounted to 2,140 euro and was donated to the local National School, as these young children will hopefully some day soon be the stars of the future.

Club Membership is now due and any one with fees please contact Hughie McManus or Alan Martin. New members are always welcome, so please support your local club.

The Annual draw takes place this (Friday night) in Feehan's. Anyone with tickets please return them and anyone looking for tickets please contact any member of the committee. Tickets 20  euro each or 3 for 50. euro.

The annual outing takes place this weekend to Galway. This is the last opportunity for the players to let their hair down before training starts for the 2008 season, so hope all the footballers have a great weekend and ready to report back for training.

The club lost a great member on 19th November 2007, the late P. Francis McGovern, Tonlagee. Sympathy is extended to all his family and to families from the parish that lost a loved one during the year. The deceased members Mass will be celebrated later in the year. The club sends best wishes to one of our players Fintan McGovern who is gone to Ghana to serve with the UN wishing Fintan all the best and safe journey home. Best wishes also to our new Parish Priest Fr Tom McManus a native of Swanlinbar. Also best wishes to Fr Lynch who has moved to Ballyconnell.
