Permission granted for upgraded mental health unit at St Davnet’s Campus

Planning permission has been received for an upgraded mental health unit at St Davnet’s Campus. Oriel House, at the site in Rooskey, which was formerly used as a residential unit for Older Persons will be extended and refurbished to provide an upgraded Mental Health Residential unit for patients on the St Davnet’s campus who currently reside at Blackwater House.

The proposed development is for a single storey extension to the existing building, including a total of 16 en-suite bedrooms for full time residents. It will also comprise a new entrance, reception area, nurse’s station, offices, consultation rooms, storage, sanitary facilities and common areas.

There will also be a number of works to the existing building to include modifications and reconfiguration of internal areas. New windows are to be installed internally and external windows will remain in place. There are also a number of site works which will take place.

John Hayes, Chief Officer for HSE Community Healthcare Organisation Area 1 was delighted by the planning approval.

"It is envisaged that we will proceed to tender in the next month," said Mr Hayes. "The project is due for completion by 2019.  I  would like to sincerely thank all the key stakeholders working  together to progress this important work, in particular the staff of Blackwater house, members of the CHO 1 Area Mental Health Management Team and the Estates Department."

This project is one of three integrated projects that the HSE is progressing with implementing the design, planning and delivery of the other two being

·        The development of North Monaghan Primary Care Centre by way of major refurbishment of Blackwater House on the St Davnet's Campus.

·        The development of a Community Residential Nursing Unit with a minimum of 20 beds. This will be co-located with the North Monaghan Primary Care Centre integrating Primary Care services and a nursing facility.

The HSE will continue to work to progress these three projects and to build upon and enhance community services that are delivered across the CHO area.
