Further icy conditions expected tonight

Met Éireann has lifted its national status orange snow and ice warning but is still warning of icing conditions tonight as the current cold snap continues.

The latest weather forecast for Cavan predicts lows of minus two or three overnight; following a dip in temperatures in this area last night of minus seven degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Cavan County Council has updated its priority salting routes for the county as Wintery conditions persist.

The Ulster regional forecast is, as follows:

Today 

Very Cold today with some sunshine and occasional showers of rain, hail and sleet. There will be a few isolated snow showers inland. The frost may linger in some areas, with ice on untreated surfaces. There is a risk of some freezing fog patches this morning. Highest temperatures of just 3 to 5 degrees. Winds will be mostly moderate north-westerly and occasionally fresh and gusty.

Tonight

Tonight will be very cold with frost forming again. Lowest temperatures of minus 2 to plus 1 degrees with ice on untreated surfaces. It will be dry in most areas. There will be a few isolated showers in coastal areas.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the frost and ice will gradually clear in most areas. It will be mainly dry at first. However rain will spread from the west during the afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees. Light south-west winds will back southerly increasing moderate to fresh and gusty at times.
