MASONIC LODGE HISTORY

WHERE: Bailieborough Masonic Lodge
WHEN: 8pm
WHAT: A lecture by Eugene Markey on the history of Freemasonry in Bailieborough from 1738-2018. Refreshments served.

 

OPEN DOOR SESSSIONS

WHERE: Nixy’s Bar, The Square, Bailieborough
WHEN: 8.30pm
WHAT: The Open Door Sessions have a special line-up featuring some of Ireland’s most celebrated talent including: Michael Gallen, Gerry Hodgers, Ollie Gargan, The Giant Wolf Theatre Company and Leona Daly.

 

TAPESTRY OF LIGHT

WHERE: Church Street Centre, Ballyconnell
WHEN: 7pm
WHAT: Botanist Heather Bothwell presents: 'Tapestry of Light' exhibition by nature photographer, Tina Claffey Tina’s stunning photography reveals the beautiful and exotic flora and fauna of Ireland’s unspoilt raised bogs and wet woodlands. Also repeated at on Saturday, September 22.

 

LAKELAND & SEAN LAMH

WHERE: Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff
WHEN: 7pm
WHAT: Konik Studio aka Kasia Zimnoch and Pawel Kleszczewski presents 'Lakeland' an exhibition of their recent works and premiere of their animated video to go with Daragh Slacke’s bog-gothic tune 'Sean Lamh'.

 

‘HEADS ON SHOW’

WHERE: Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff
WHEN: September 21-25
WHAT: Young people from Co Cavan and their advocates worked with the sculptor Joanne Behan on life size clay portraits using theme of “Our Voice” to explore self and diversity.

 

PRINTWORK DISPLAY

WHERE: Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff
WHEN: On currently
WHAT: Printwork display by 5th Years from St. Clare’s College. The prints were made using a printing press under the guidance of visual artist Eileen Ferguson.

 

SONG SISTERS

WHERE: Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff
WHEN: 8pm
WHAT: Song Sisters are a five piece vocal harmony group from Cavan who will perform musical numbers from Abba, Aretha Franklin and Fleetwood Mac amongst others.

 

OLD IRISH BALLADS NIGHT

WHERE: Bear Essentials, Bawnboy
WHEN: 8–10.30pm
WHAT: A night to celebrate the long tradition of Irish and German relationships. Bear Essentials will be serving German food to Old Irish Ballads. Featuring Ailín Réamann and Jimmy Farrelly, playing guitar, banjo, accordion and mandolin. Advanced booking is essential: anke@bearessentials.ie

 

TRAVELLER BANNER

WHEN: All of Culture Night
WHAT: Inspired by a trip to Belfast Cavan Traveller Movement will unveil their Young women’s banner which they completed with visual artist and poet Heather Brett.

 

ART DISPLAY

WHERE: Bridge Street Centre, Cavan
WHEN: 2.45pm onwards
WHAT: Visual Art Display - the artworks of over 200 young people from Cavan no 1 School and St. Felim’s NS, having worked with artist Marilyn Pepper on themes of diversity and shared culture.

WHAT: - 6-8pm, Cavan Genealogy Centre, Farnham St. Cavan Town.

 

THEATRE

WHAT: Written and performed by members of Cavan Older People’s Council with Maura Williamson 'The Best Years of Our Lives Have Yet to Come' is a unique piece of theatre exploring issues encountered by older people in their daily lives.

ART EXHIBITION

WHERE: Cootehill Library
WHEN: 6.30-8pm
WHAT: A wonderful exhibition of Prints, Drawings and Paintings from the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Library staff will be on hand to answer questions about the exhibition and young children will be encouraged to respond to the work with art materials on hand for everyone. No booking required. Just come along.

 

FRIEL DRAMA

WHERE: Drumlin House Theatre, Cootehill.
WHEN: 8:30pm
WHAT: Following on from their great success at the Cootehill Arts Festival, Aisteorir Muinchille promise a wonderful performance of “Losers” by Brian Friel.

 

‘GO WHERE IT FLOWS’

RADIO PLAY PREMIERE

WHAT: Kilnaleck Youth Drama Society have ventured into radio production and soundscape with Alan Darcy. They will premiere adapted Radio play written under the guidance of their leader Alice Lynch

 

STREET ART

WHERE: Trivia House, Swanlinbar
WHEN: 4.30pm onwards
WHAT: Young people of Swanlinbar completed a 26 hour street art programme with Graffiti artist Jonathan Lynn and will have their hard work on display for all to admire.

 

HISTORIC WALK, TALK AND MUSIC

WHERE:Drumlane /Community Centre, Milltown
WHEN: 7 8.30pm
WHAT: The evening starts with a walk and talk from Drumlane Community Centre to Drumlane Abbey and round tower with Oliver Brady, Geopark Guide. This is followed at approximately 8:00 by music, song and dance with Milltown Comhaltas Group

 

MICHELLE BOYLE OPEN STUDIO

WHERE: Garryross Old School, Virginia

WHAT: Open Night at Whitethorn Studio. Michelle Boyle, following a recent exhibition in Axis Ballymun, is hosting s special event at her own studio with tea, coffee and cake!

WHAT: Jim McPartlin exhibits a varied pallet of locations and subject matter in oils and acrylic.

WHAT: Breffni Camera Club exhibition of a variety of their images. Members will be on hand to talk about their work, photography in general and the benefits they have found in joining an IPF Affiliated camera club.

 

HEROES IN HIDING CONCERT

WHAT: Insanely talented indie band Heroes in Hiding play what should be one of the best events of the whole of Culture Night.
