Cavan Chamber AGM set to take place

Cavan Chamber has launched a new map detailing both retail and night life hot spots in the county town.
The launch of the double-sided map is set to serve as a guide to both visitors and residents of the fantastic retail, food and night life experiences that Cavan Town has to offer.
“We have listed over 120 businesses on the map who are members of Cavan Chamber. The map also includes landmarks such as the Abbey, the library, the cathedral etc, as well as the several public car parks around the town,” explains Eugene Greenan, president of Cavan Chamber of Commerce.
According to Fáilte Ireland, Cavan had 107,000 overseas visitors in 2017, who spent and estimated €48m in the local economy.

Mr Greenan stated that the aim of the map initiative is to better educate, as well as make it easier for visitors to see and learn what is available to them and where to find

it.

“With the growing trend of staycations in the several fantastic hotels that Cavan Town and county have to offer, I believe that this simple initiative could greatly enhance the footfall into Cavan Town in the future,” adds Mr Greenan.
The Cavan Chamber Retail & Night Life Map is already available in key locations, with each of the four hotels in Cavan Town currently stocking the map in their lobbies.
It will also be made available from the tourist office in Cavan County Council.
“We are also receiving requests from some retailers who wish to have the maps available in their stores, which we will accommodate in the coming weeks. The map has also been published on our new website,” enthused Mr Greenan.
The chamber president further stated that the map will be an evolving document that will be republished every four months to allow for updates, including new businesses who wish to take part in the initiative.
“We believe that the businesses who are not on this map are missing out on a big opportunity and we are therefore willing to allow businesses to join the initiative on a quarterly basis,” says Mr Greenan.
Interested businesses should contact the Cavan Chamber of Commerce office.
The Chamber, meanwhile, will host its AGM on Thursday, January 17, where it’s understood among the items up for discussion is a proposed joint-venture aimed at moving the Taste of Cavan from its current location at the Equestrian Centre at Cullies into the town centre.
It follows a meeting between Chamber hierarchy and the local authority executive, which took place on Tuesday last week, January 8.
However, Mr Greenan refrained from making a comment other than to say: “ Our membership will be briefed on all past, current and future initiatives at those meetings.”
