Two QIHL directors assaulted this lunchtime

Gardaí are investigating an incident where two senior directors at Quinn Industrial Holdings Limited were allegedly assaulted in a local shop in Ballyconnell this afternoon.

The incident occurred at a retail premises located close to the Quinn factories, and the assailant is understood to have fled the scene following the attack.

The two QIH directors were in the process of purchasing lunch at the time of the incident, with early reports that one of the two men was hit in the face, while the other may have been injured by hot water thrown in his direction.

A spokesperson for QIH confirmed an alleged assault against two of its directors had taken place. They told The Anglo-Celt: “Both men are seeking medical attention for injuries sustained. Gardaí are investigating.”

Commenting, Liam McCaffrey, Chief Executive QIH voiced gratitude to the QIH staff and members of the local community who intervened to assist the directors.

“Cowardly unprovoked attacks of this nature cannot be allowed to go unpunished and we trust the Authorities will deal with this accordingly,” added Mr McCaffrey.

Gardaí are meanwhile continuing to investigate arson attacks at the homes of Quinn Industrial Holdings (QIH) senior executives. In mid-October a car at the Butlersbridge home of CFO Dara O'Reilly was firebombed; two weeks later a car owned by the daughter of Tony Lunney, a senior manager at QIH, was set alight outside the family home in Ballyconnell.
