19 extra SNAs for Cavan and Monaghan

There will be 19 new SNA posts allocated to schools in Cavan and Monaghan this September.

This will bring the total number of SNAs to 366 across the two counties.

This includes eight nee SNA's in Co Cavan, and 11 in neighbouring Monaghan.

This is part of an allocation of almost 800 new SNA posts announced for across the country for the new school term.

Heather Humphreys, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation and Fine Gael TD for Cavan Monaghan, welcomed the teaching post boost.

that that 19 new SNAs will be allocated to schools in the local area this September. This will bring the total number of SNAs to 366 across the two counties.

SNAs play a key role in ensuring that children with special educational needs can be supported to fully participate at school, and I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the fantastic work that they do across Monaghan and Cavan,” said Minister Humphreys.

They are an extremely committed group of professionals and they deserve every credit for the contribution they make to our communities.”

In total, there will be almost 16,000 SNAs working in schools nationally by the end of 2019, a 51% increase since 2011, when the figure stood at 10,575.

This increased investment, she said, reflects the priority which the Government has put on helping children with special educational needs to fulfil their potential.

More children with special educational needs are participating in school than ever before, and this would not be possible without the unprecedented support of this Government, with a €1.9 billion investment in the sector.”

Minister Humphreys added: “Local Schools will be receiving confirmation of their allocations from the National Council for Special Education shortly, and it is also expected that a further allocation will be announced during the first term of the new school year.”
