New Gonzo play premieres in Belturbet on Saturday.

New Gonzo play heads up busy weekend of ents

The Gonzo Theatre presents the world premiere of 'The Battle of Cuchulain and Ferdia' written by Philip Doherty at Donohoe's pub in Belturbet this week. Two long lost brothers meet in a desolate public house to settle an argument over land that is threatened by a fracking company. In this radical re-interpretation of the ancient Irish myth, instead of going to battle with swords and spears, Cuchulain and Ferdia decide to take combat over a marathon drinking contest. This visceral, black comedy will satirize man's lust for battle and booze and the staggering, theatricality of an all night drinking session. Starring Kevin McGahern, Philip Doherty and Stevie O'Brien, and with a live score courtesy of Daragh Slacke and Alan D'Arcy, 'The Battle of Cuchulain and Ferdia' is a must-see play. They plan to tour it in pubs around the country, catch it first at Donohoe's Pub, Belturbet on Saturday, November 17, around 9.30pm. Free entry.
