Royal School seeks to raise €30K for sport facilities

This Friday, January 20, some 100 musicians and singers will take to the stage of the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan, from 8pm to perform a ‘Gala Concert’. The event is to raise funds to develop much needed on-site sports facilities at the Royal School Cavan.

An initiative of the School’s Parents Association, this concert is just one of many planned events to raise an initial target of €30,000 by them for the sports facilities project.
Seven acts will perform on the night and include the Cavan Singers, Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra, Song Sisters, Outer Limits, Louise Florence, past pupil of the school and a former Voice of Ireland Contestant and the Royal School Cavan Choir and soloists under the musical direction of Laura Kavanagh.

Heather Alexander, chairperson of the Royal School Parents Association, said: “The Royal School community recognises the importance of the improvement and promotion of the physical health and well-being of the students. The absence of an indoor sports facility at the school is a barrier to the school providing on-site sports activities. A Sports Hall would enable the Royal School Cavan to play its part in creating and supporting our young people to enjoy a healthy and active life, developing a habit of regular exercise. This Gala Concert is just one of the many initiatives planned by the Royal School Cavan Parents Association to raise funds to help build much needed sporting facilities at the school.”
Another parent, Una Matthews, said: “This gala concert promises a wonderful night’s entertainment from some of Cavan’s best musical talent. The funds raised will support the building of a sports hall at the school.'

* Tickets are available from Easons, Main Street, Cavan or from the Royal School Cavan, priced at €10 each.
