Recession Rocks Shercock

Following the success of last year"s production of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat Shercock Musical Group has opted for a traditional variety show which comprises scenes from Annie, Grease, and the Blues Bros. It will also feature comedy and an unusual selection of solo numbers ranging from Gershwin"s I"ve Got Rhythm to the love songs of Lee Greenwood, composer of The Wind Beneath My Wings and God Bless the USA. Its a show full of nostalgia from the great depression in the 1920s to the rock and roll of the "70s as well as the magical songs of Abba, which have reached a worldwide audience with the recent movie hit Mamma Mia. It runs from Thursday, November 13 to Sunday, November 16. The cast of young people from Shercock and the surrounding parishes have been rehearsing since August and are ready to rock this recession in what promises to be another sell-out. With such talent as Katie Cundelan, who plays Annie, Carla Monaghan as Mollie, and Helen O"Brien as Miss Hannigan, the show will be a knockout. Tara Troy is the youngest performer (six) and she duets with her brother Ben, (nine), a star of last year"s show as the young Joseph. The 'Blues Bros' are Liam and Joseph O"Reilly with an energetic chorus staged by June Donnery who also choreographed the Abba chorus girls. Jazz is supplied by Celia Richards. A native of France, now living in Shercock, she is a real discovery in her rendition of I"ve Got Rhythm and Lullaby of Birdland, but the original twist comes from Manchester born, composer, now living in Killann, Matthew Adcock, whose song One by One is according to the musical director Charlie O"Gorman, 'better than anything in this show, a fabulous pop song worthy of the Corrs'. The show concludes with scenes from Grease with people like Cathal O"Reilly, Claire McMahon, the perfect Danny and Sandy, Colantha Forde is a Rizzo to be reckoned with in her solos Sandra Dee and especially moving, There are Worse Things I Could Do. The Abba quartet is Dolores O"Reilly, Mary McEneaney, Aidan McEvoy and Richard Teague. 'Grease' is choreographed by a highly talented dancer from Carrickmacross, Orla Sheridan. Recession Rocks takes place in Shercock from November 13 to 16 with Musical Director Charlie O"Gorman. The production team comprises of Paddy Farrelly, June Donnery, Eithne mcMahon, Aidan McEvoy, Andrew O"Reilly, and Maria McPhillips. The band includes piano Charlie O"Gorman, lead guitar, Vinnie Baker, bass Pete O"Connor, clarinet Susan White, trumpet Michael Gaskin and drums Gary Burns.
