Tamboran vow not to frack against council's wishes

Leitrim County Council followed Roscommon's lead and called for the Minister for Energy and Natural Resources to ban fracking, writes Damian McCarney. The move reflects the representatives' concerns over the fracking debate and puts further pressure on the two companies with the licensing options in the county to allay the public's fears or call a halt to the project. The motion, unanimously passed, calls on Minister Rabbitte to put a moratorium on the proposed gas drilling for at least five years and then, if necessary, to have a review again. Tamboran Resource's CEO, Richard Moorman this week told The Anglo-Celt that they would not frack for gas without an "explicit request" from the council. Referring to the Roscommon decision he said: "We respect the Roscommon County Council's decision. Tamboran abides by the wishes of stakeholders. We have no land rights within County Roscommon, but if we did, we would certainly abide by their request and ensure that no commercial operations of any sort ever took place within the county without their explicit request."
