Schools pleased Leaving Cert results out today

Early indications are that the local schools are pleased with their Leaving Certs scores as more than 1,600 students in Cavan and Monaghan opened their exams results this morning. They are among 50,000 students nationwide who have picked up their results from this morning.

Some 823 students sat the exams in County Cavan last June, while 806 took the tests in County Monaghan.

Mary Ann Smith of Cootehill Comprehensive says the students were 'very, very happy' with this morning's results.
'We've had a wonderful set of results, most of the students have gotten their number one choice or if not the number two.
'A lot of students did the Honours Maths paper for the extra points, which has the perception of being the most difficult paper but it is worth the twenty-five extra points on top of the grade mark.
'English and Geography were two that went really well and woodwork and engineering were both a success - they would have practicals in both so they would have twenty to twenty-five points in the bag by the time of the paper.
'All in all, the students did really, really well in terms of their own goals, there's a very, very positive feedback to our guidance counsellor who is here with the students giving advice.'

Online

The results are available online at www.examinations.ie. A PIN is required to access the service, while hard copy result certificates have been available from most schools from around 9am.
The first round of CAO offers will be out on Monday, August 18 with a reply date of the following week, August 25. Subsequent rounds will follow.
Wednesday, September 3, is the closing date for Leaving Certificate appeal applications. However, schools will require applications to be submitted a number of days in advance in order for them to be posted to the Commission on time. The appeal fee is €40 per subject, which will be refunded if the result is upgraded.
