Council approve appointment of new chief executive

The members of Cavan County Council have approved the appointment of their new Chief Executive, a position which became vacant following the retirement of former County Manager Jack Keyes last year.

On completion of a public recruitment campaign, the Public Appointments Service wrote to the Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council Shane P O'Reilly recommending the appointment of Tommy Ryan, Director of Services, and current Acting CEO at Roscommon County Council.

The members of Cavan County Council were the first to invoke the new statutory powers regarding the formal appointment of a Chief Executive.

According to Fianna Fail Councillor Shane P O'Reilly, he said: 'It was a proud day for the members to be the first authority to use these powers. I commend them for the manner in which they have dealt with the appointment. I want to thank Ger Finn, our acting Chief Executive for his leadership and drive over the last 12-months.

'I welcome Mr Ryan to Cavan and look forward to working with him in the future,' Cllr O'Reilly added.
