It's the June Bank Holiday weekend - are you headed to the county fleadh in Swanlinbar, the Killinkere Jamboree or the soap box derby in Tullyvin? Cavan County Fleadh

Excitement is building as Cavan County Fleadh heads west to Swanlinbar for the first time next weekend.
Brimming with competitions, impromptu seisiuns, recitals, dancing, singing and street entertainment it promises to be a thrilling event.
The weekend will open on Friday, May 29 with dancing competitions at 6pm in St Mary’s Hall, and at 9pm the fleadh will be officially launched with the children from Scoil Mhuire being joined on the line-up by branches across County Cavan. This will be followed by the current All Ireland Ceili Band Champions Knockmore Ceili Band who will perform a free open air concert on the gig rig.
A host of special guests will entertain on Saturday and Sunday on the gig rig, in Trivia House and in the pubs throughout the town.
Other events over the weekend include the popular Cissie’s Kitchen who have moved into Mill Street for the weekend! Competitions commence at noon on Saturday at various venues throughout the town. From 3-7pm on Saturday, Irish TV will be recording from Swanlinbar and entertainment will start at 3pm with a senior seisiun, open air youth seisiun, singing seisiuns, and Cissie’s Kitchen to name but a few.
Having worked up an appetite, at 8pm Swanlinbar branch will host a barbecue and music seisiun in Trivia House, followed at 9pm with a singing seisiun.
The Irish language will also take centre stage at the fleadh with transition year students from St Mogue’s School Bawnboy hosting a seomra gaeilge from 4pm on the Saturday.
A Fleadh Sets Ceili with Breege Flynn will also take place on the Saturday in St Mary’s Hall from 10pm–1am, dancing to Long Note Ceili Band.
Competitions will continue on Sunday, May 31 from 10am.
After the competitions there will be a craft fair and a colourful fleadh parade will commence at 4pm with stilt walkers, cheerleaders, pipe band, dancing troop, musicians, local floats to name but a few.
Come along and listen to the host of top class trad musicians performing on the Gig rig in chapel square from 4-10 pm on Saturday and Sunday evening.
Other events in the area include the James McManus Triathalon on Saturday, May 30 from 11am at Brackley Lake, and on Sunday the Annual Cuilcagh Festival with Cuilcagh Walk at 1pm and barbecue at Trivia House from 6pm with trad seisiun.
Hundreds of musician and artists from all parts of the Country are expected in Swanlinbar over the weekend.
This area is steeped in traditional culture and will be rocking to the very best of trad music over the weekend in this beautiful part of West Cavan.

Big dance night

Fun Quiz
Where: Gallonray House, Drumgoon

What: Cootehill hurling club are holding a fun table quiz on this Friday at 9.30pm. This quiz will support the U14 hurling team travelling to Feile. €20 per table.

Beard Shave
Where: Bailie Hotel, Bailieboro

What: Charity Beard Shave in aid of Down Syndrome Support, Cavan. So far, there are 13 men that will have their beards shaved. Lively band playing. Raffle with fantastic spot prizes. To volunteer contact Orla Monaghan.

Co Club
Where: Crean’s Bar, Oldcastle

What: Co Club returns to the Oldcastle venue with Belturbet singer-songwriter 'Fiona Maria Fitzpatrick & the darling buds of’, Men Of Twenty (Limerick/Dublin-based rock band with indie infusions) and artworks will be displayed by from renowned artist Marguerite Dolan. Local man Ben Tiernan will perform a self penned satirical piece taking a sideways look at everyday issues. This piece is very entertaining and is sure to make you laugh. Free entry!

Horse Riding Event

'Summer Praise’

What: Annual “Summer Praise” Celebration in the compact Presbyterian church at edge of Carrigallen. Musicians, singers and soloists will include members of the Ballinaglera, Boho, Florenceourt and Killesher Choirs, with leaders, Aedin McLoughlin and Viola Dourish, joining with the Presbyterian United Choir of the Cavan Union of Churches, conducted by Rev. Dr. Jean Mackarel.

Charity cycle

What: 50 & 100KM cycle to start at the Peace Link Clones in aid of Rhys Reihill Duffy Hand Foundation. Rhys now aged four and a half was born without a left arm/shoulder. Rhys’s family are hoping to raise enough money for him to have a prosthetic limb which will enable him to live the life every child deserves. Registration at the peace Link from 9am.
