Two nigerian priests amongst bishops diocesan appointments

Two Nigerian priests will be welcomed to the diocese of Kilmore it was revealed today as Bishop Leo O’Reilly announced the appointments of clergy.

Unless otherwise stated the appointments take effect on September 1 2015.

Bishop O’Reilly has appointed Monsignor Liam Kelly, P.P. Kill-Drung as Vicar General of the Diocese of Kilmore. Monsignor Kelly takes up his position as Vicar General on 1st September 2015 upon the retirement of Monsignor Michael Cooke who has been Vicar General since September 2001.
Bishop O’Reilly has appointed two priests from Nigeria to parishes in the diocese of Kilmore among this year’s new clerical appointments . Both priests are members of the Missionary Society of St Paul of Nigeria. They are the first Nigerian priests to receive appointments in the diocese.
Fr Addison Okpeh was ordained for the Missionary Society of St Paul in 1997 . He served for several years in Lagos, Nigeria and is currently serving in the diocese of Southwark in England. Fr Addison has been appointed as curate in Shercock in the parish of Killann. He will take up his appointment on 1st October.
Fr Peter Okpetu was ordained in 2014. He has served since then in a large suburban parish on the outskirts of Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria. Fr Peter has been appointed curate in Cavan. He is due to take up his appointment early in September.
Bioshop O'Reilly warmly welcomed both priests to our diocese and wish them every blessing and happiness in their ministry here.
Fr Enda Murphy, a priest of the diocese of Kilmore, has been appointed by the Vatican Secretariat of State to serve in the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments of the Roman Curia. Fr Murphy is a native of Derrylin, Co Fermanagh. He studied at Queen’s University, Belfast, the Gregorian University in Rome and, more recently, at the Pontifical Athenaeum of St Anselm in Rome where he received a Doctorate degree in Liturgy. Bishop O’Reilly was asked by Cardinal Sarah, Prefect of the Congregation, to release Fr Murphy to work in the Congregation for Liturgy in order to assist in the renewal of the Roman Curia by Pope Francis.
We wish Fr Murphy every blessing in his new ministry of service to the universal Church.
