New chair for taste of cavan festival

A new chair has been elected to the Taste of Cavan Food festival committee. Redhills-based chicken farmer Alo Mohan is a member of the Poultry Council of Ireland, a former IFA Poultry Chair and has been a key member of the Taste of Cavan committee since the festival’s inception.
Mr Mohan was nominated for the position by outgoing chair, Cllr Winston Bennett (FG), who had held the position for four years. He said it was “time for some new blood with fresh ideas” to take the hot seat.
“Alo was the obvious choice with his experience of the agri-food industry. He has done a lot of great work in promoting Cavan food and he has been central to the event’s success over the past four years,” said Cllr Bennett.
He said he remained committed to the festival, noting the event was “going from strength to strength”.
Cllr Bennett thanked all the committee members, volunteers, exhibitors, chefs and sponsors for their support during his time in the chair and in particular praised former county Manager Jack Keyes and SEO Paddy Connaughton for their parts in growing the event to what it is today.

‘Honour and privilege’
Speaking following his election, Mr Mohan said it was “a great honour and privilege” to appointed chair of the Taste of Cavan. “The Taste of Cavan has gone from strength to strength and, with the varied skill sets and dedication of the committee, it will continue to move upwards and onwards. We hope to continue its success in providing a platform for new and existing businesses to create jobs for Cavan.
“The new Chief Executive for County Cavan, Tommy Ryan, understands the importance of Taste of Cavan for the county and his vision is to develop a County Food Strategy through the County Economic Forum and to make Cavan Ireland’s number one food destination,” said Mr Mohan.
He added: “The committee has planned some exciting new elements for Taste of Cavan 2016, which will be rolled out over the next number of months to ensure Taste of Cavan continues to be a great family day out”.
