Ulster Bank announce 124 further redundancies

Ulster Bank has announced 124 redundancies across its countrywide branch network as part of their previously announced programme of job cuts.

While there will be no branch closures, the bank says as part of this latest restructuring, it will create 23 new positions in its branch network to ensure it is meeting the changing needs of customers.

These are in addition to 11 new retail banking positions being announced in the coming weeks, it added.

Staff affected by the 124 redundancies will be offered voluntary redundancies.

A spokesperson for Ulster Bank said that previous redundancy programmes had been oversubscribed, and the bank is expecting a similar outcome this time.

The bank restructuring previously saw branches in Clones and Castleblayney in Co Monaghan and in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim closed last year.

It followed other local closures in recent years of branches in Belturbet, Killeshandra, Kilnaleck, a part-time operation in Swanlinbar, and branches in Castlepollard and Granard, Co Longford.
