Local Designer Wins Big at Bloom Festival

Garden Designer Barry Kavanagh and O’Reilly’s Nurseries in Mountnugent have both scooped awards at the prestegiou Bloom flower and garden festival in Dublin.

Barry, who lives in Bailieborough his wife, Ann and son, Brian, has been awarded Gold for hisAcross Boundariesgarden which conveys how Social Farming can play a vital role in the therapy of participants within the healthcare system.

Barry not only won Designers Choice Award, but also won Peoples Choice for his garden which after Bloom, complete with unique sandstone cut from Ross Quarry, Mountnugent, will be integrated into an existing social farm.

The medals at Bloom are highly coveted and months of planning go into the design and creation of each one of the gardens. The highly experienced and renowned team of international Bloom judges, led by head judge Andrew Wilson, spent over two days meticulously observing and deliberating before announcing the much anticipated results this morning.

In addition, O'Reilly's Nurseries in Mountnugent won a Silver Gilt medal in the Floral and Nursery Marquee, which showcases the best of plant nurseries in Ireland, the following local businesses were awarded medals.

Bord Bia’s annual Bloom festival, which this year celebrated its tenth birthday, attracted over 100,000 visitors over its five-days, before closing on Bank Holiday Monday.
