Killykeen holiday village for sale

Coillte has decided to sell the 28-log cabin holiday village at Killykeen.

The Irish Times reports this morning that Coillte is likely to make more than €1 million from its sale. As well as the cabins, there are 'associated office/service facililties and a selection of leisure facilities', all set out over 74 acres with 1.7km of coastline.

The complex, on Lough Oughter, had been closed for a number of years but Coillte maintained it in the interim. In 2006, it was put on the market and a €4.75 million-sale had been agreed in 2007. That sale fell through and it was again put on the market in 2009 for €3.5 million but failed to sell as the recession hit.

Coillte manages the Forest Park, which is designated a special heritage area and the paper references the Center Parcs group, who are spending €232 million in Longford on a holiday village and activity park as an example of the growing tourism landscape in the region.
