Warning over fake euro notes

The Cavan Chamber of Commerce has issued a warning to retailers and members of the public alike to be on the alert for forged €20 and €50 notes circulating in the Cavan Town area.
They issued the alert this morning (Tuesday) after a number of outlets reported notes.
These notes have been described as “slightly faded” and business people are being urged to check such denominations with the special pens designed to detect bogus currency.
Chamber President Eddie Coleman is urging all members to check the €50 and €20 notes in circulation when tendered in the various businesses in the town. This will ensure any such notes are detected quickly and can be taken out of circulation.
Meanwhile, members of the public selling items privately to unknown customers are also being advised to check notes tendered to them to ensure they are not being conned into parting with their property for dud payment.
