Storm Doris hitting Cavan tonight

Met Éireann has issued a number of weather warnings for Cavan ahead of Storm Doris hitting Ireland tonight [Wednesday]. A Status Yellow rainfall warning covering Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo was released this morning.

The national meteorological service says that between 25mm and 50mm of rain will fall. The warning was issued at 11:00am this morning and is valid to 06:00am Thursday February 23. They say that gale force winds with gusts of up to 110km/h and heavy rain, sleet and snow are expected to fall across the country.

Met Éireann has also said that a Status Yellow warning is in operation regarding dangerous winds. Winds are expected to increase to mean speeds of 45 to 65 km/h with peak gusts in exposed sites of 90 to 110 km/h; southwesterly gradually veering northwesterly overnight.

A deepening Atlantic low pressure system is forecast to track across Ireland and Britain Wednesday night and Thursday. A status Orange wind warning has been issued by the UK Met Office for northern England and Wales and so the depression has been named Storm Doris. Status Yellow wind and rainfall warnings are in operation for Ireland and the rest of Britain.
