Woman charged in connection with Kilnaleck murder

A Latvian woman has been charged in connection with the murder of a woman in Kilnaleck almost three years ago.

The body of mother-of-one, Antra Ozolina (49) was found at her home at The Old Post, Main Street, Kilnaleck, on Saturday, June 28, 2014.

Egita Jaunmaize (33) appeared before Virginia District Court in custody today (Tuesday). She is charged with acting to impede a Garda murder investigation contrary to Section 7(2)(4) of the Criminal Law Act, 1977.
Inspector Micheál O’Donoghue told the court that the defendant had been extradited from her home country on a “serious charge”. He said that the State Solicitor had directed that she be sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.
Insp O’Donoghue applied to Judge Grainne O’Neill for Ms Jaunmaize to be remanded in custody to appear again at Cavan District Court.
Defence solicitor, Rita Martin, applied for a Latvian interpretor, which was approved by the judge.
There was no application for bail.
Judge O’Neill then remanded Ms Jaunmaize in custody to Dochas Women's Prison to appear again at Cavan District Court on March 23 for service of a book of evidence.
The specific charge against the defendant is that on dates between June 27-28, 2014, at The Old Post, Main Street, Kilnaleck, where as another person having committed an arrestable offence, namely murder, that she knowing or believing, that the said person to be guilty of the said offence or some other arrestable offence, did without reasonable excuse, an act with the intent to impede the apprehension or prosecution of the said person.

Ms Ozolina's death was originally thought to be a suicide but, following post mortem, gardaí launched a murder investigation.
